What is AMH?
Amh stands for Anti-Mullerian Hormone. The anti-Mullerian hormone test measures the age of our ovaries and the number of eggs in our ovary reserve. The anti-mullerian hormone test, for instance, will tell if your ovaries are working according to their age at 30 or if they are older.
Therefore, the more eggs you have in your ovaries, the greater your chances of conceiving naturally. Doctors may recommend an AMH test as a fertility test if you are unable to conceive.
What is a good AMH level to get pregnant?
In general, a good AMH level for IVF is considered to be 1.0 ng/mL to 3.0 ng/mL. Levels below 1.0 ng/mL are considered low and very low (0. 5 ng/mL). There is a possibility that the presence of high levels of AMH indicates that there are more remaining eggs (oocytes) and that there is a better chance of IVF success.
How is AMH measured?
AMH is measured by blood tests for women of reproductive age and the number of eggs in our ovarian reserve.
The following levels illustrate low AMH levels by age:
- 25-year-old women have an AMH level of 3 ng/mL.
- 30-year-old women have an AMH level of 2.5 ng/mL.
- 35-year-old women have an AMH level of 1.5 ng/mL.
- 40-year-old women have an AMH level of 1 ng/mL.
- 45-year-old women have an AMH level of 0.5 ng/mL.
AMH levels and IVF success
Eggs are produced in the ovaries before birth. New egg production stops about three months before birth. The number of eggs produced from that point on decreases over time. At any age, a lower AMH level indicates there are fewer eggs remaining in the ovaries, and a higher AMH level indicates that there are more eggs remaining. During IVF, people with low AMH levels don’t respond as well to fertility medications and therefore tend to get fewer eggs at egg retrieval.
Egg quality also diminishes over time. One way in which you can measure egg quality is by looking at how likely it is that an egg will produce an embryo that is abnormal due to not having the correct number of chromosomes. Chromosome abnormalities in embryos become more common with age. In addition to age, people who have low AMH levels are also more likely to make abnormal embryos.
Women between the ages of 25 and 30 If their amh level is 0.5, your chance of having a live birth. The total chance of pregnancy for one egg retrieval and up to three embryo transfers is 38%. If your AMH is 0.1, your probability of a live birth drops to 29%. At 1.0, your probability increases to over 50%. At an AMH of 2.0, the probability of a live birth goes up to over 60%. If your AMH is 2.0 or higher, your IVF live birth rate continues to increase, but the rate of increase starts to slow down.

How to increase AMH levels
- Healthy food intake: include a nutritious diet, such as a high-protein diet; milk products; green leafy vegetables; almonds; eating pumpkin seeds; eggs; and avoiding spicy foods.
- You will benefit from adopting a healthy lifestyle and reducing your body mass index below 25. You should exercise every day to achieve this. If you are overweight, you can improve your ovarian reserve and egg quality by losing weight.
- Have at least one pregnancy before 30.
- Improve your vitamin D3 deficiency.
- Stress management
- A doctor may advise taking the DHEA supplement for three months.
